As of May 18, 1997, the State of Michigan was holding some $17 million in funds and property that belonged to people who had not claimed them. James Anderson of Ossineke had risked $10,000 on an Alaskan oil venture sixteen years earlier and had written it off when the company went bankrupt. He discovered that $1,965 was being held for him. Irene Kay of Walled Lake learned of money that was hers which would enable her to undergo tests for a possible pituitary brain tumor. It would also enable her daughter, Kristi, to complete the six classes necessary for her to get her communications degree at Oakland University. Karl and Jill Greimel of Rochester learned that they had $8,775 from a loan they had made years earlier to a company which disappeared. Those funds could now be used for their two sons in graduate school. No one knew of these windfalls until the names of these people were published in newspapers throughout the state, indicating that funds awaited them if they contacted the state. The treasures of salvation have been provided for all by the saving work of Jesus Christ. But people will not benefit until they are told. It is the task of all Christians to publicize the fact that salvation, with all its benefits, is available to everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior.
