The Miami airport terminal was crowded and tense. Severe thunderstorms were delaying flights and the sheeting rain was so heavy that incoming planes could hardly be seen. In one corner of a waiting area, a group of 11 teenagers squeezed together for conversation. The young people were especially eager to return home to families and friends and back to "modern" civilization after a two-week trip to rural Honduras. Adult leaders decided to use the waiting time to debrief and to talk about their shared experiences. Finally, Megan took her turn. Resisting all the way, she had been sent on this trip by her parents and it had been difficult for her away from her friends and summer activities. "You know, I didn't want to come and I thought that I couldn't live without my CD player and blow dryer. And I was really mad when we were told not to wear jewelry. I really love my rings ... But now I see that I don't need any of those things, they are not important at all. I want to go back next summer." -- Kelly
