Michael is the main character...

Michael is the main character of The Street Lawyer by John Grisham. He was on the fast track toward partnership in his law firm. Partnership would assure him a healthy income. Yet he gave it all up when he had a spiritual encounter with a homeless man. Michael left his firm, in order to become a "street lawyer" to help the poor and indigent. At different times, Michael's father, his brother, and the law firm partners each met with him to tell him that he was crazy. They did not understand why he would give up the promise of millions.
But following God's call sometimes means we can make millions, and sometimes it means that we forego something in order to receive the spiritual blessings involved in following Christ. There were street lawyers who modeled for Michael the value of offering legal assistance to the poor and indigent. And Michael boldly modeled for his law firm what it meant to be a lawyer who earnestly helped people, even at the expense of his own career.
