Mindy was the Director of Christian Education at a large city church. She loved her job and was always trying out new ideas and new approaches to teaching. It worked, too. Her Tuesday night Bible study group was a gopd example. It had grown so large that she had been forced to start a second group. When a retired seminary professor had volunteered to take over the first class, Mindy was thrilled. That would allow her to concentrate on hen new class. But something wasn't quite right and Mindy knew it. Attendance at the Tuesday night Bible study had dropped to five and people were asking if they could join her Wednesday night group. They said that the professor talked down to them, that he wouldn't listen to their ideas. All he wanted to do was lecture. Mindy tried to talk to the professor. He either wouldn't or couldn't listen. He kept saying that he had studied the Bible for his whole life and that his teaching methods had worked just fine for 45 years. He said that if all they wanted to do was discuss things and they weren't prepared to learn, then they shouldn't sign up for his Bible class. Mindy knew what the problem was, but she didn't know what she was going to do about it.
