Morton Kelsey, who has written eloquently on the subject of love, tells how one day he felt a sharp rebuke from his younger son. This particular son was having difficulty reading in fifth grade, but the problem seemed to be deeper than what appeared on the surface. Eventually, the father and son had a heart-to-heart conversation. One day Kelsey's younger son said to him, "Father, I remember when I made up my mind that I would never ask you for anything again in my life." He continued to relate the incident, which he had never forgotten. It seems that Kelsey had been reading A. Conan Doyle's Tales of Sherlock Holmes to his two sons. When the older brother went away for a few days, the younger brother still wanted the father to read aloud to him. He took the book and asked his father to read to him. But the father said he was too busy. He asked him again the second and third nights and received the same reply.
Thinking back on that occasion, the younger son confessed to his father in their intimate sharing, "... quite consciously I made up my mind that I would never ask you for anything else again in my life."
Kelsey had never realized how sensitive and in need of his love and attention his son really was.
"If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me...."
