Moses came to the juncture...

Moses came to the juncture many Christian leaders reach. At what point do they turn over
their work to successors? Moses clearly had a lot left in him, even at 120 years of age. He
was vigorous and had strong vision. He served faithfully for forty years and made few
mistakes. Moses may have been the most effective leader ever.
The Lord made it known, however, that it was time to turn the leadership to the younger Joshua. Moses resisted. He'd started the people on their journey to the promised land. It was just across the Jordan River; he could see the long-awaited goal. He wanted so badly to fully accomplish the mission.
Perhaps what Moses couldn't see was that crossing the river was just a first step toward a fuller objective. There were cities to conquer, lands to survey and divide, and the work of settling. The Lord foresaw that; Moses evidently didn't. I pray that I'll have the wisdom to trust the future to the Lord when he tells me it's quitting time.
