The mother had to be...

The mother had to be restrained from rushing into the burning building, where one of her children was trapped. It took three large men to keep her back, she was so insistent. One of the men, trying to calm her down, shouted in her face, "You have two other children here who will need a mother! You'll die if you go back in there! Think of your children who are safe." But she could not. All she could think of was that one child, trapped in the flames and smoke, and she struggled until her body gave out, and fainted to the ground. Suddenly, a cheer went up! A fireman in an asbestos suit and air tank stumbled through the door, a child in his arms. The outcome was still uncertain for this little one, overcome by the smoke as he was. But he had been untouched by the flames because one man had the equipment to overcome this fiery disaster, and the dedication to risk all for someone else's child. -- Herrmann
