The unity of Christ's people is a thrilling prospect.
At a national level it is manifested with excitement and provocative discussion at the time of the National Workshop on Christian Unity. This event, started nearly twenty years ago, calls together ecumenists from across the country to talk, live, and breathe Christ's plea that we "all be one." It is a cry not unlike that of Jeremiah who visualized God's people being gathered together from afar under a myriad of conditions.
The workshop's theme in Boston (1981) was "One Spirit-Many Gifts-One Body." In 1982 those who love the ever-dynamic thought of Christ's people being one will gather in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Then in 1983 Louisville, Kentucky, will be the host. There is a spiritual electricity in rubbing shoulders -- yes, and embracing one another -- across denominational lines.
