Near the end of the nineteenth century, a young lad from the country was visiting his relatives in London for the first time. He sat on the front porch of the house and gazed in amazement at the wondrous sights of the city. As he looked down the street, he saw a man making his way toward him. He would stop at each corner and pause beside the lamp post, and then a round globe of light would burst forth through the darkness. As the boy watched in wonderment, the street gradually changed from darkness to a place of light.
He became so excited that he ran into the house and exclaimed, "There‚--ôs a man outside poking holes in the darkness."
Here is a beautiful picture of what each Christian should be doing. John says, "If we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie ... but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."
We need to go forward poking holes in a world darkened by sin. If we have the light of God‚--ôs presence within us, we can join with other Christians in changing our small area of the world from darkness to light.
