The newspaper carried the photograph...

The newspaper carried the photograph of a rather strange-looking man, carrying a cross along the road. The article stated that this man traveled across the country, mostly by foot. Wherever he went he drew the attention of others. He did not give his name and no one seemed to know anything about him or where he was from. His message was reminiscent of John the Baptist -- people had better turn toward God. He even looked like John the Baptist, not overly concerned about his outward appearance.
He spoke at local churches and always drew a large crowd. There was something genuine about him that intrigued people enough to want to see and hear him. Perhaps it was the same appeal as John the Baptist with his simple, straightforward message -- get ready because Jesus is coming.
