The novella, or short novel...

The novella, or short novel, The Argentine Ant, is an excellent example of how a contemporary novelist is able to describe the pervasiveness of evil in the world. The Argentine ant is a tiny pest which appeared omnipresent and indestructible. Citizens tried all kinds of methods of dealing with the ant, but the task of eradicating it seemed hopeless and impossible. The novel is an effective parable in portraying a global sense of indefatigable evil.
Yet solutions for overcoming the perversity of the world are rarely offered. Or, if they are, they are only faintly suggested -- unless some romanticist paints for us. The apostle challenges the wisdom of the world in assessing its problem and offering a solution. The solution God offers may appear as folly to the world, but it inevitably proves to be wiser than what the world offers.
