The oldest riddle in the world: "Which came first? The chicken or the egg?" I doubt that a solution is important, especially if the pondering over it detracts from either the chicken or the egg. The writer of Proverbs would assert that God created Wisdom before anything else, but his words seem to tell a different story. As Wisdom, given a voice in the poetry, describes God's creative acts, it seems that the reality of Wisdom is expressed in how God did create. God did create the universe with wisdom," but not so much as a separate entity, but in every act, the wisdom of it is demonstrated in what God did.
In the same way, we are not wise because we have wisdom, but we demonstrate our wisdom by the thoughtful consideration of what we do, how we treat others, and how we live our lives consistent with the beauty and usefulness of God's creation.
