One of the biggest hit programs PBS has ever produced in the last few years is Creation. This series produced by Bill Moyers consists of several programs in which people from all walks of life re-examine the stories in the Book of Genesis. Churches and various civic groups have used this program as a launchpad for discussion of Genesis in their own neighborhoods.
Creation is one of the foremost themes in the Bible. Paul saw the incarnation of Jesus Christ as a mighty act of God enabling us all to be new creatures in the Lord. Our New Testament is a new covenant between God and his children. In this Lenten season of 1998, it behooves us to recall the new commandment Jesus gave his disciples while sitting with them at the table in the Upper Room.
Come into our midst during Lent, O God of New Beginnings, cleanse us and make us new people as we follow Christ of the New Creation manifested in awesome power on Easter morning. Flood our souls with the fire of new ventures. Sustain our hearts in times of testing. Renew our commitment to him who is as new as the sun in the dawn-lit sky, as old as the hills beyond the valley, as present as the day in which we are called to serve. With Paul, with saints and martyrs, with the fellowship of the New Testament, we come, O God, we come. Amen.
