One day I took my children to a street carnival in our community. We had a great deal of fun, but part way through the afternoon I realized how much this event was costing. Every time I turned around we needed money for something: popcorn and hot dogs, rides, games, things to buy and things to see. Soon all the money I had with me was gone. Looking for a shady spot to rest on this warm day, I saw a booth I had not noticed before.
Sponsored by one of the neighborhood churches, this was the only booth in the fair which was not selling something. A large banner across the front of the booth proclaimed: "Have a Cold Cup of Water in Jesus Name," and it was free, a gift! How often, it is only in the name of Jesus Christ that we are motivated to ask not what we can get, but what we can give. The cup of cold water on that hot day was doubly welcome, because it reminded me to get my own priorities in order.
