One evening in the town of Amherst, Massachusetts, the father of poet Emily Dickinson hurried to his church and vigorously rang the bell. People rushed out in alarm to see what happened. But Mr. Dickinson explained that he was particularly struck by the beauty of that evening's sunset, and wanted everyone in the town to have an opportunity to see it.
