One of the most dangerous...

One of the most dangerous parts of any manned space voyage is the reentry into earth's atmosphere. The impact turns the vehicle into a fireball of such incredibly high temperatures that any miscalculation of the angle of entry or defect in the specially designed heat shields results in instant death. During reentry all communication with ground stations is broken and the pilot has no control over his/her own ship. Strapped into his/her seat, absorbing the shock of losing weightlessness, he/she can do nothing but trust in the engineers who designed his/her craft and the computers that calculated his/her path. It is a helpless moment, knowing there is nothing one can do but wait. But people venture to risk their lives in that way because they do trust and they do believe.
