One of the wonders of traveling to the Holy Land is to walk where Jesus walked. Jesus, "the Word made flesh!" In Jerusalem, Bethelehm, and Nazareth, the pilgrim can see what Jesus saw with his eyes, hear the grumbling of the camels and merchants that Jesus heard, smell the sharp smell of spices and the dull dust he smelled ...
But Jesus is closer than a trip to the Near East! We don't have to make a pilgrimage to be where Jesus is.
As we read the gospel of the beloved disciple, John, we know Jesus created the hills in our neighborhood, the lake nearby, the mountains in the distance: "Without him nothing was made that has been made." The mewing of our cat, the grocer setting out his fruitstand on the corner, the smell of our own kitchen reminds us that Christ is the Creator of all that exists.
He is our Creator. He walks where we walk today.
