Our actions paint the true picture of who we are. I know of a church that had a softball team. They played in an ecumenical league. They were the newest team in the league and invited both young and old from their church to play on the team. They had great fun but the problem was that they were bad. Really bad. The last year I saw them, they had won only one game the entire year (only because the other team didn't show up). One year they decided to get uniforms for the team: shirts and caps. They were beautiful, with royal blue caps and white lettering, matching blue shirts with the name of the church emblazoned on them and the E.L.C.A. logo. They looked like ballplayers. And when they went out onto the field, they looked like they knew what they were doing. The problem, of course, was that they were still the same old team, playing the same old way. -- Riether
