In our health-conscious society, more and more people are concerned about purity, especially in their diets. According to an article in the New York Times, sales of kosher foods are soaring, largely because of new customers who buy them not for religious reasons, but because they are considered to be healthier than non-kosher products.
According to Integrated Marketing Communications, most of the growth in sales has come from people outside the Jewish faith, with 28 percent of the country's population saying they have bought kosher foods, while only 9 percent admit they buy kosher for religious reasons. Such products as Kedem tea biscuits, Wolff's kasha, and pure buckwheat, as well as kosher meats, have enjoyed an increase in popularity because they are perceived as healthier due to strict observance of kosher "purity" standards.
However, as Paul points out, Jesus Christ is the one who makes us a pure people.
