In our materialistic culture the sirens of commercialism urge us to buy and consume more so that we might obtain the elixir of happy contentment. Our passage reminds us to be content with life's necessities as we serve the Lord as good stewards of his manifold gifts. In the words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, we can find contentment in doing the Lord's will each day. Lean over the shoulder of this Nobel Prize winner as she prays to God for a life of faithful Christian obedience: "Lord, give me this seeing faith that my work will never be monotonous ... make me appreciative of the dignity of my high vocation, and its many responsibilities. Never permit me to disgrace it by giving way to coldness, unkindness, or impatience. Lord, increase my faith, bless my efforts and work, now and forevermore. Amen."
