"Jesus, that's who!"
That statement answers a lot of questions I've asked about my life. Who told my mother to keep me close to the church? Who led me away from my two school friends, both of whom ended up in prison? Who, when I was thirty-five, gave me Sharon? Who put me in touch with seven people who wanted to start a different kind of church and asked me to be their pastor?
"Jesus, that's who!"
I know a lot of Christians who don't give credit where credit is due. They cry coincidence when it's really God-incidence. They say it's in the stars or on the charts when it's really in the mind of Christ. They conclude it would have happened anyway when it couldn't have possibly happened without the direct intervention of a Christlike God through the Holy Spirit.
Peter healed the congenital cripple at the temple "in the name of Jesus." (Acts 3:6) When interrogated by Annas and his crowd, he told them the cripple was healed "by the name of Jesus." (4:10) Unashamedly, no hesitation or qualification, Peter gave credit where credit was due. Let's not evade the issue. We are healed, directed, and empowered by the power of Jesus. Not by happenstance. Not by luck. But by the wonderful name of Jesus.
