A parishioner once told me that he liked the church (where I was the pastor) just the way it was ... and he did not want to see it get any bigger. I know what he was thinking: He did not want things to change. He was comfortable with things the way they were and did not want strangers coming in and "messing things up." I suppose that's a natural reaction. We like things to stay the same. But I challenged him with this: "Dennis, I would be happy with the church too if there were not people in our community who are not in a relationship with God. But as long as there are, then we have an obligation to Christ to invite and encourage the unchurched to join in our worship and fellowship. That's why Christ died on the cross and rose again. Remember that everyone is precious in God's sight."
