As part of a recent mission trip, I accompanied a group of high school students to a community garden. We spent our day weeding in the vegetable patch that helped provide fresh produce to a nearby community kitchen. As we pulled weeds and made compost, an older lady named Betty took a small group of students off to one side of the garden to plant a row of carrots. As she showed the kids what to do, I overheard her quote Robert Louis Stevenson: "Do not judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant."
Paul is trying to teach the Corinthians a similar lesson in this passage. It is important for Christians to set good examples for each other, to plant seeds in each other for future growth.
