A pastor friend related to me that he had a funeral this week and two people attended. He said the deceased man's son made it very clear that he did not want to be there and two of his sisters would not come.
I remembered a funeral at which I had officiated — the least expensive casket available was used. It was made out of fiberglass. I overheard the children of the deceased talking — they wished their father had died sooner.
All of us can remember crowded funerals where the one who died was so loved by family and community that many wept over their loss. David was grief-stricken over the death of Saul and Jonathan. David said: “Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives.” What will people say when you die? Will anyone come to your funeral?
