The pastor told our youth group, "I'll teach you how to get a job and how to pray."
We thought he meant praying to get a job. He said, "First, find the person who hires, and submit your application. Then get down to the serious job seeking. Return every day and ask if they're hiring.
"You've got a good chance of getting hired that way and you'll never know if you were the best for the job or if when they needed someone, yours was the face regularly at the door.
"Now, pray the same way. Come to God every day. When you receive what you ask for, you'll never know if it's because you convinced God or if God was going to give it to you anyway; but, by your constant asking you remained sensitive to how God would answer your prayer."
