A pediatric surgeon I know...

A pediatric surgeon I know here in Omaha tells of a six-year-old boy who I'll call Tommy. Tommy had to have a test done which required a needle to be put into his back to draw some fluid from his spine. The little boy asked the doctor if it would be all right if he recited the twenty-third Psalm while the procedure was being done.
"Of course," said the doctor.
After the procedure was finished, the doctor praised the boy for sitting so still while the work was being done.
"Saying the twenty-third Psalm gives me strength. God helps me do things I couldn't do by myself. Do you know how to say it?"
The doctor said, "Yes." Around the room were others watching.
"Say it with me," said the little boy. As the little boy said the words, the doctor stumbled along with him.
"You really should learn this," said the boy. "It'll help you through hard things because God will give you strength." The little boy who should have needed to be ministered to, had reversed the order and ministered to the doctor.
That night the doctor went home and carefully learned the words. Each day since he has said, "The Lord is my shepherd ..." as a part of his daily devotions. He has found the testimony of the little boy to be true. God does give him the strength to get through the things he is too weak to do on his own.
