People have been stopping to see Mr. Green's Christmas lights for many years. Each year he seems to outdo himself, adding another string of lights, or spinning lollipops or colorful bells. In recent years neighbors have been complaining about the extra traffic and litter left on their street.
A newspaper reporter was writing a story about Mr. Green's annual Christmas display. Among the reporter's questions was why he continues to put up his display each year when he knows some of his neighbors are upset with him. With a smile on his face he said, "I do this because of the joy it brings to so many people." He told how he watches the amazement on the faces of children each night as families stop in front of his house. He told of letters he received from people of all ages, some having gone through a difficult time in their lives. Many told of how seeing his Christmas lights gave them a sense of hope. Another wrote of seeing the lights off in the distance and driving to search for the source. Those reasons outweighed a few complaints from his neighbors.
"I do it for the joy it brings," he said. Mr. Green continues to bring forth light into the dark world. December has the darkest days of the year, but Mr. Green lights up the night with his Christmas light display. The prophet Isaiah exclaimed, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light." Christmas is about the true light, Jesus Christ, coming into our world.
