People will always judge and criticize. It's a fact of human nature. And it's painful to be the object of that judgment and criticism -- especially for a new person in a community. When Dick and Trudy moved to a small town, they moved to get away from the fast pace of the big city. They wanted a quiet place for their children to play and grow, and they desperately wanted to get away from traffic, noise, and pollution. They were excited about their move. The people were kind enough to ask them where they were from and where they lived and tell them where they should go to worship, but Dick and Trudy were not invited anywhere. They tried to fit in, but their city ways were mistakenly interpreted as arrogant or patronizing. Their confidence in their opinions suddenly made them condescending. Life was difficult at first -- until the people got to know them. It took many years, but as the community watched, they saw that Dick and Trudy were not really different, and they were finally accepted. Their children grew up in a quiet, safe place. Their lifestyle was simplified. And their routines were busy but manageable with plenty of time for leisure. Dick and Trudy were glad they stayed.
