As the persecution of the Jews spread over Europe during World War II, there was a gigantic effort made to spare as many of them as possible by Christian leaders and church members. A special effort was made to save the children of Jewish families. Some were sent to England, while others were sent to neutral Sweden. Some were able to escape to Palestine, then under British rule. A few were even able to come to the United States to live with Jewish families here.
What a parallel to Joseph and Mary escaping with Jesus to Egypt. He was spared from the wrath of King Herod which would have certainly ended in his death. In like manner, some of the Jewish children were able to escape the persecution and death which came through the concentration camps instituted by AdoIph Hitler.
