Pondering the past is something...

Pondering the past is something we all do, especially as we grow older in years. Why? Is it because we have more time to think about the past? Is it because past history becomes more valuable to us as our future becomes more uncertain in this world? While the author of Wisdom ponders the past history of the nation of Israel, as Christians we ponder the past history of our salvation each time we gather about the table of remembrance. This pondering of the past always becomes a present reality. Remembering what Christ did for us on the cross is more than just conjuring up a great past historical event; we are displaying that what happened then is as real to us now as it was to those who originally participated in it -- perhaps even more so. Then people "awaited the salvation of the just"; now the waiting is over and becomes a present reality for all eternity. -- Wachenschwanz
