In a popular comic strip, "Calvin and Hobbes," the stuffed tiger, Hobbes, points out to his child, Calvin, that friendship is not contracted; friendship cannot be bought or forced by one on another. Love is very much the same way: it cannot be planned or encouraged by insistence. "Calvin and Hobbes" is a great example of this unconditional quality about true love, because Calvin is often a spoiled brat, and yet Hobbes loves him, just because he is himself! -- Winifred
