The car of a fireman in Schaumburg, Illinois, was hit by a train while he was driving to a Saturday morning softball game in a neighboring town. From the moment of impact the man was unconscious and completely helpless. He had severe head and internal injuries. Doctors, on their first examination, said it would be years before the man would regain use of his body. Less than six months later, the man was back on the job with the fire department. After intense rehabilitative therapy, the thirty-five-year-old father of two children has only a few aching muscles and a stiffness in his arm to show from the accident. Of his experience, he says, "There has to be such a thing as miracles, and not only must I have had a little angel at my side, but God must have been there, too."
Miracles do happen, as Bartimaeus could tell us, too. But the greatest miracle of all is when God through Jesus opens our eyes of faith to see that God loves us, and to know that when we call out to him, he will respond to us and help us in our time of need.
