Quite a few years ago...

Quite a few years ago in major league baseball, the American League decided to change the rule to allow for a designated hitter who could bat instead of the pitcher. At first, many people did not like that rule because it changed the game somewhat. But over the years most people have come to accept the fact that even though that is a different way to play baseball, it is still basically the same game. But how many rules can you change before baseball is no longer baseball? If you started to play with five bases, would that still be the same game? Or what if you had twelve players on the field, instead of nine? Or what if you changed the size or the shape of the ball? Obviously, at some point, if you changed the rules enough, the game you would end up with would not be baseball anymore. But where exactly do you draw the line? Our tendency over time is to drift away from Jesus. But in this passage, Jesus declares that the Holy Spirit will remind us of Jesus' words so that we may remain true to him and not depart in some other direction. -- Bowen
