Righteousness and justice are not realities that the late Supreme Court Justice Haim Cohn observed either in history or in the laws of his beloved Israel. Justice Cohn enjoyed the accolade of being "the greatest rebel in the Israeli judicial system." He confronted the orthodox Jewish system many times throughout his years of service. Although he was a yeshiva student, he became an unbeliever. Reflecting upon the Holocaust, he confessed, "I decided it was better not to believe in God, for otherwise I would have had to hate him."
