Road signs make an interesting study. Travel across the country or around the world reveals many different signs. Some signs are relatively universal, such as the red STOP sign.
It is fun to observe the local flavor of road signs, such as the various wildlife crossing signs, depicting camels, birds, moose, deer, kangaroo, and cattle. Colors of the signs vary from white to blue, orange, yellow, and red. Signs come in an assortment of shapes: square, rectangle, round, and octagonal. A Caution: Workers Working sign in the Netherlands was even three-
dimensional.
Most signs, though similar, show subtle differences. For example, signs warning of falling rocks may depict anywhere from two to five rocks, all or some of which may be in the air. There may be a car on the sign, and there may or may not be a driver depicted in the car. Some rocks have lines added portraying the speed of the tumbling rocks.
Despite their diversity, each sign points to a real or potential reality, a reality which is readily apparent from the sign.
