Ruth and her mother began...

Ruth and her mother began talking by phone when she was away at college. Mother and
daughter would talk to each other several times a week. Some days, the women would
talk for nearly an hour, while other conversations were shorter. Over the years, they
seldom ever missed a week.
The calls continued as Ruth settled into her first job and later was married. Ruth always looked forward to her mother's calls as well as the practical advice and assurance in times of confusion.
Over the years, the women talked about so many wonderful things that happened in their lives. They spoke of joy and disappointment. When either one answered the phone, they immediately recognized each other's voice. Ruth never had to say, "This is Ruth" and her mother never said, "This is Mom." Because of their relationship they immediately recognized each other's voice.
After her mother died, Ruth missed those weekly telephone conversations. There was a sense of void in her life. She so wanted to pick up the phone and talk about her children and their families, or what was going on in her life. Yet, Ruth also realized her mother as a person of great faith. In fact, her mother inspired her own faith. Ruth knew without a doubt that her mother now resided in heaven. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish."
