Ruth had an appointment with her doctor. As she waited, she struck up a conversation
with the woman sitting next to her. In the course of their conversation, they discovered
that they knew a mutual friend. As they were talking, a young mother returned to the
waiting room. That woman's son was born without hands. Ruth told her that her son was
involved with a service club that was working with one of the leading children's
hospitals. They were raising money to fund a new device that would help people without
hands be able to feed themselves. Ruth gave the woman her son's name, address, and the
name of the hospital.
Ruth forgot about that encounter until years later when she ran into the woman and her son at the county fair. The woman immediately recognized Ruth and introduced her son. She thanked Ruth for the information she shared and how that had made such a difference in their lives. She had made the contact, and it had completely changed her son's life.
It was a chance encounter that led to wholeness for another person.
