Ruth's friends were not sure...

Ruth's friends were not sure what would happen after her husband died. The couple was
happily married for many years and was always together. Albert's illness was short,
which thrust Ruth into unexplored territory.
During the year following Albert's death, Ruth prayed seeking God's direction and guidance for her life. When she was a young woman she felt called to mission work. But she married Albert and started a family, never acting on her calling. It wasn't as though she regretted marrying Albert, but deep down the call remained.
At first friends did not understand why Ruth would want to leave her nice suburban home and live on the mission field. She explained that she loved her husband very much but now it was time for her to live out her dream -- her God-given calling.
She gave her children personal items, held yard sales, sold her household bits and pieces, as well as her house. She attended language school for two months before embarking on her lifelong dream and calling to be a missionary. Ruth would work at an orphanage where she would shower the children with Christlike love. She felt joy in serving others and was truly making a difference in the life of the children.
While she definitely would not have chosen what happened, the passing of her husband provided a new beginning and new start which she gladly seized.
