Saint Paul uses the example...
Illustration
Saint Paul uses the example of common pottery in 2 Corinthians 4:7. Here he reminds his listeners/readers that they are carrying the treasure of Jesus Christ in clay jars. What a paradox! The precious gospel of Jesus Christ is found inside the common clay pot of our lives. These clay pots were the utensils of the ordinary people. They were not costly and could be shaped into anything from pitchers to pots to wash basins to storage containers. Clay pots could hold a variety of liquids and keep them cool as well. Paul tells us that we are the clay-clods of God. We are the clay-pot people who have been entrusted with the gospel treasure. What a strange and wonderful God who gives us the gift of Christ in our fragile, cracking, and common lives. -- Bolton
