Sam Levenson relates some of his early family experiences in his book, Everything But Money. He tells how his family had plenty - plenty of fights, plenty of relatives, plenty of neighbors, plenty of cockroaches - plenty of everything but money!
In spite of their poverty, Levenson said that his mother kept a box marked "For the Poor" and taught her children to give to those who were less fortunate. He indicated that it always made everyone in the family feel good to give something away.
The members of the Levenson family were united by some common goals. Of course, the most important was the goal to survive and rise above the level of poverty. They worked together and helped one another whenever they could.
The early Christians also had many common goals. They worshiped the same Lord, and each testified to his death and resurrection. There were cornmon concerns as well as a common faith. Their possessions were shared one with another. They were likewise blessed by God as they shared what littie they had with those less fortunate.
