Several weeks ago I sat in the church office on a sluggish Monday morning with little to do. Inspired by a desire to straighten out the old books in the church library, I repaired thither with dust cloth in hand. All of the old books culled from Sunday school class curriculums were organized by month. At last I came to the placing on the shelves of several tattered and torn Bibles. While engaged in my housekeeping I wiped the covers of several old Bibles ensconced and forgotten in a dim shelf behind the library door. Browsing through one of the Bibles I saw pasted into the flyleaf the following verse penned by the famed American hymnwriter Fanny J. Crosby:
Blessed Bible, sacred treasure,
Precious book, of all the best,
There is comfort never failing,
And a calm abiding rest.
Read with reverence, and
commit it,
Verse by verse, and day by day;
'Tis the word that God has spoken, And it cannot pass away.
