Several years ago, on a family vacation, I found myself in a difficult situation driving over the Great Smokey Mountains. We had left Cherokee, North Carolina, early in the morning, surrounded by dense fog. It was only 30 miles to Gatlinburg on the other side of the enormous hills. This short distance should not have taken very long to drive, but it actually took us an hour and half. The heavy fog slowed us to moving at a snail's pace. A few hours later the sunlight broke through and we made up some of the lost time.
This experience reminded me of the fact that the important thing in life is not how fast we go, or how far we go, or even how long we live. The important thing is how we use the time we have.
As we consider the second coming, it is not important to speculate as to how many years it will be until Christ's return. What is most important is how we live those years we have until that time, or until our death. Time is not important to God, but the quality of life is!
