Several years ago, it was my privilege to spend two months in the Philippines, working with Sunday school teachers. They were not wealthy in financial terms, but they were wealthy in love. They welcomed me, received me, took care of me, and worked with me. They accepted me as a brother in Christ.
When my weeks came to a close, they had a party. They brought gifts, homemade gifts -- a barong made of pineapple fiber to wear when I would show my slides and tell the story of the starting of a new church in the Philippines ... doilies with the pineapple design ... a painting of the new church.
I found them to be a people who lived the lines of the twelfth chapter of Romans. They did not lack zeal. They were faithful in prayer. They had spiritual fervor. They shared what they had. They lived in peace with one another. Their love was sincere.
