Several years ago, a movie came out titled, Cocoon. It was the story of some old
folks in a retirement center. Don Ameche won an Academy Award for his part in the
film. In the movie, some of the old timers had been slipping next door and using the
swimming pool of a private home where nobody lived. It had yet to be rented. One day
some creatures from outer space rented the house and stored in the swimming pool these
round objects that provided eternal life. The old folks had no idea about these objects.
When they continued to sneak next door for their morning swim, their lives were changed
dramatically. The finest moment in the film was when an old man explained to his
grandson what had happened to those old folks who used the swimming pool since the
aliens took over: "We'll never be sick. We won't get any older. And we'll never die." The
Revelation to John says there is such a place: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things
have passed away."
