Skyscrapers are amazing sights to behold, soaring so high. But what one often doesn't
consider is their foundations. In order to support the weight of a tall building, a solid
foundation is a must.
The first thing that builders do is dig down to the bedrock under the proposed tower. Once bedrock is reached, steal footings are laid. Then a network of steal rebar is set and the whole foundation is filled with concrete.
The foundation of an average home in North America ranges from 1 to 2 feet. The CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario, reaches a height of 1,815 feet, and it is supported by a foundation of 50 feet which incorporates 9,200 cubic yards of concrete with 500 tons of steel rebar and 40 tons of steel cable to a thickness of 22 feet. The Petronas Towers in Malaysia stand 1,483 feet, and have a foundation that is a whopping 394 feet due to the unstable bedrock.
Paul urges the Colossians to be rooted in Christ, in other words to lay a solid foundation on Christ the bedrock.
