In a small community, the choir director was trying to find good music for the Easter celebration. He found an excellent anthem by a modern composer that was based on the short but wonderful chapter of scripture, Isaiah 12. He knew the words were right to celebrate the victory of God over death, but he didn't know if the complicated rhythms and atonal harmonies of the modern anthem would work in his little congregation. But, he was determined to give it a try. He brought the anthem to the choir for the first rehearsal, and it was awful! Everyone hated it and didn't want to work on it. Yet he persevered. Slowly, but surely, the choir learned its difficult parts. Easter Sunday dawned bright and glorious, and the choir now joined the director in worrying about the response of the congregation. When it came time for the anthem, the choir assembled solemnly and seriously. The song began, and the choir and the congregation were transported into new joys of Easter life. The choir sang as it had never sung before, and the great words of the prophet, "the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation," became the new song of new life for the people in that place.
