Some children drag home every stray cat and dog they find. My friend Dennis brought home drifters. Situated on a major highway that linked eastern and western Canada, many drifters passed through town. The fortunate ones did so when Dennis was in town for the mail. He would take these men home, feed them, get them medical attention, offer them a bed for the night, and if they wanted, he'd put them to work on his farm. It wasn't unusual to see strange men driving his tractor, painting his fence, picking his stones. I asked Dennis if he wasn't afraid for his wife or two small children, or if he wasn't afraid something would go missing. "We pray for God's blessing on our house, so we feel safe. God has blessed us with so much, we feel we must share those blessings with others. Besides, I just can't let Jesus stand there by the road, can I?"
