Some folks think that Paul wrote Hebrews, but it's just not his style. It sounds more like glad tidings from a woman's world. Perhaps Hebrews was written by Priscilla.
The author remembers that sacrifice in the Hebrew scriptures was part of the law. The audience was scholarly and included a great many Jews. Christians would not make a sacrifice because it was their legal obligation.
The Jewish Christians, sixty years after Christ died, were giving themselves because of their love for God and their love for each other. The sacrifice was not a burnt offering but rather a commitment to do the will of God.
In Isaiah the Lord asked who would go for the benefit of all the people. The prophet said: "Here I am, Lord, send me." There was no hesitation about service to the Lord. The decision was made quickly from the heart.
This is God's unconditional love. Must we be ready to serve without hesitation? Christians serve with love. We strive to see the needs of others before we see our own. We have come to do God's work.
