Some people driving through Montana...

Some people driving through Montana are surprised to find out that state troopers are pulling cars over for speeding. They are surprised because many people think that Montana does not have a speed limit. But that is not true. Although Montana does not have a set speed limit for daytime driving, there are signs that say that drivers are allowed to travel at a reasonable and prudent speed based on the conditions. In other words, Montana is expecting people to use some good judgment in determining how hard they should be pressing on the accelerator. So, for example, a driver of a Chrysler was pulled over for going 87 m.p.h. on a day when crosswinds were blowing especially strongly. Montana is willing to give people freedom. But when people misuse that freedom, the police are there to let them know about it. And really it is for people's own good, because some people just need to be told where the limits are. Otherwise it is very likely that they would harm themselves or others. As the devil tempted Jesus, Jesus was well aware of what the limits were. By relying on the Scriptures, he used good judgment in deciding what to do. -- Bowen
