Someone asked a retired minister...

Someone asked a retired minister which was the most comforting text in the Bible. The old man replied, "It came to pass."
"But that's not a Bible verse; it's only the beginning of one."
"I know," answered the preacher, "but still those are the most comforting words in the Bible to me. It didn't come to stay --it came to pass!"
The exposition may be poor, but the wisdom is great. The human spirit need never permanently be flattened out. Disaster and defeat do come to all of us at times. Life is worth living even if the way be troubled or short. This is because when we live with God, we have the power to share in his triumphant spirit. God did not make us for listless, lifeless living. Our days do not have to be drab and dreary. Our spirits can be brave and free whatever our lot. Grim and gloomy Christians are a misrepresentation of the spirit of Christ. Indeed, one of the gravest charges against many of us is that we have lost the zest and verve of life.
In this parable, Jesus is saying that it is not enough merely to occupy space in the world's vineyard. A courageous spirit overcomes life with faith, service and joy.
